Finally back on the cooking mojo. It's been a bit tricky with moving and stuff, but now I'm more settled I'm really pleased to be eating better. For a while, even just a short time, easting ready meals left my nails flaking and splintering. Already, with eating a bit better they're getting stronger again - which is great because it hurts when they snap so fat they bleed. Seems like an overreaction but that's just my body at the moment! - So to start, I made a firm favourite of mine: black bean stew. Yay! My first Run Up To Christmas medal ever! I signed up the previous 2 years, and I never managed to clock up the Km. This year, despite uni deadlines, moving house and trying to make a shell a home I managed somehow to clock up the kilometers this year. 50 km across 25 days might not seem a lot to many runners, but for me, the fact that I managed it despite having a lot of change occurring really shows me just how far I've come in the last 3 years. From being entirely overwhelmed by normal living tasks: showering, dishes, washing, food shopping all felt too much for me for a long time, and now, I'm juggling more than I have for a long time and managing. Granted, I still don't do an awful lot but I'm doing so much more and so much more, consistently. January is well and truly under way halfway point of peak winteriness (definitely!). With lengthier stints of creepy darkness consuming our hours, it's a very natural feeling to want to hibernate a bit. I think the bears have the right idea with this one. Unfortunately, we are not bears and the world does not stop for 6 months a year for us to hibernate; the show must push on. - January is still a bit of a funny month. The festive shenanigans are over, which can be a relief. For others this means there's nothing to look forward to for a while (debatable). Perhaps something terrible happened at Christmas, because usually in someone's life something terrible happens at Christmas (not an official statistical fact). To top it off, January hosts Blue Monday - an idea that the third Monday in January is the bluest of them all, and although I very much disagree with the sentiment that you can feel depressed for a day or a week only, the fact that the idea of Blue Monday took off indicates that January is just a bit of a shit time of year - which is kind of funny considering we start it off with the biggest bang of all the months; all while being the number one most hated (a very quick and brief google search confirms this, if that's the level of evidence we're accepting now). With all of this in mind, I thought it might be helpful to think of some ways to cope this January if you are feeling a bit off keel. - There's a lovely list of (maybe) helpful suggestions on my site, FULL LINK ON BIO.

Life Update: I've been on the quiet side of things since the new year. On the whole I'm doing well, my antidepressant increase seems to have kicked in; my motivation currently exists, my sleep is log-like and free from night terrors, I can concentrate and my anxiety about stuff isn't so bothersome. I'm not crying I over things not worth crying about, like spilled milk, and for as far as mental health goes, I feel stable AF right now. I have picked up a bug that is threateningly chesty so I'm adopting a new regime of sanitising my hands all the god damn time at work because I think kids are buggy and I did receive a cough-sneeze assault (violation) at work on Saturday. 🤢 Fuck that! Dettol is my new bestie, Sorry Soph 😂 Salem is settling well. We are bonding well and we'll be crazy in love in no time. He's started purring deeply, talking with me, and his fur is looking much healthier. He's even started the odd bat of a cat toy, so hopefully we'll get him happy and doing cat things in no time. At the moment I'm studying for my exam, so I'm pretty busy doing boring exam things and trying to up my physical activity to get stronger and fitter for my sports - all while settling into my new flat and sorting things. I'm pretty busy, I'm pretty pumped for the future and I'm pretty happy right now. ✌🏻👌🏻👍🏻

Happy New Year! Wow, what a year 2019 was and what a decade the 10s have been. It was hard and incredibly, I've come out the other side and feel like I'm starting to thrive a little bit instead of just surviving. It's taken so much work, so much pain, and a number of close calls but thanks to the NHS, my friends and my family I've starting building a life I really like. I'm pretty proud of myself of where I've come from, what I've been through and how things seem to be making more sense again. 2 In 2019, I moved to independent living, made some great memories with some great friends, got a cat who I am already in love with, and feel ready for the next decade. Meet My Sweet Boy, Salem. He's not shelter rescue, he's pre-shelter rescue. About to be put into a home because his previous owner abandoned him after neglecting him because of substance misuse difficulties. I took him from the landlords who said they couldn't keep him. The best Christmas present ever, dad had nothing to do with the decision making but it was his money that paid for him and his stuff, so thanks Dad! Here's to a better and more wholesome decade to Salem and me. Who needs a boyfriend (or girlfriend) when you've got a cat to adore and spoil?! - The only direction is forwards.
